CLAY

Clay works on the entire organism, both inside and out. No part of the body is left untouched by its healing power.

There is no other substance that is as capable of producing such a wide range of positive reactions as Clay.

Geophagy:
The eating of earthy substances, such as clay or chalk, practiced among various peoples as a custom or for dietary or subsistence reasons.

Clay That’s Good Enough To Eat
The craving to eat clay, or geophagy, makes a lot of sense when you know what clay contains and what it does for the body. Clay has been credited with improving the health of many people suffering from a wide range of illnesses, including constipation, diarrhea, anemia, chronic infections, skin ailments such as eczema and acne, heavy metal poisoning, exposure to pesticides and other acidic toxins, arthritis, acid reflux, infertility, liver disease, and obesity. It is also considered the secret ingredient in the treatment of hair loss and diabetes.

How does it work?
Clay provides the body with an impressive assortment of minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, sodium and silica – all alkalizing to the blood and tissues. The minerals exist in natural proportion to one another, which encourages their absorption by the intestinal villi. The human body can tolerate a deficiency of vitamins for a longer period of time than it can tolerate a deficiency of minerals. In fact, a slight change in the blood concentration of minerals can rapidly endanger life.

What Is It That Makes Montmorillonite Clay So Special?
Geologically speaking, clay is volcanic ash that was deposited in sea water. By modern definition, it is a swelling type clay in its natural state, with no additives, chemicals, or preservatives. The only processing it undergoes is crushing.

Clay is a powerful product because it is ALIVE. The particles within clay carry a negative electrical charge, whereas impurities, or toxins, carry a positive electrical charge. When clay is taken internally, the positively charged impurities are attracted by the negatively charged edges of the clay mineral. An exchange reaction occurs and the clay holds the toxin in suspension until the body can eliminate both.

One gram of clay has a surface area of 800 square meters. That’s about ten football fields! The greater the surface area of the clay, the greater its power to pick up positively charged particles, or acidic toxins, many times its own weight.

During sickness or disease, the vital life force of the body is weak and incapable of supporting the body and its functions. In health and fitness, the life force is strong and is able to counteract sickness and disease. When clay is consumed, the vital life force of the clay is released into the physical body, creating a stronger, more powerful energy in the host. The natural magnetic action of clay supplies the body with the magnetism it needs to run well. The body’s natural immune system has an improved chance of restoring the alkaline pH, by removing morbid matter and acidic toxins, and thereby maintaining health and fitness.

How is Clay used externally?
Apply the clay directly to the skin for a drawing effect, as in the case of a bee sting, mosquito bite, boil, spider bite, stinging nettle, etc. If the clay is not covered, it will dry out, and as it dries, you will feel it draw and pull. If you want a tightening effect, as in the case of a facial for acne, pimples, or minor cuts, eave the clay on until it is almost dry, then remove. If you want a more cooling and soothing effect, such as for burns or scrapes and bruises, cover the clay with plastic or a wet cloth so that it won’t dry out. To remove the clay pack, simply wash it off with water and a gentle rubbing motion. Do not reuse the clay pack.

How is Clay used internally?
Clay can be taken once or twice daily with or without food, as desired, by mixing 1 heaping teaspoon in a ½ glass of preferably, distilled water.  Some say that by allowing the clay to sit for at least 6 hrs. after mixing that the life force of the clay is enhanced.

Clay has been shown to be effective for any internal disorders. People have taken the clay on a full stomach for relief from acid indigestion or heartburn. Taking the clay on an emptly stomach in the evening has been known to bring relief for ulcers. Some people have felt that its ability to absorb water is beneficial for constipation. It also seems to absorb moisture, thereby relieving diarrhea.

Instructions for Using Clay:

Internally:

Mix 1 teaspoon of clay in a half glass of water. Some people find better results if they drink it first thing in the morning, others if they drink it last thing at night, and others if they drink it throughout the day.

Externally:

Apply a layer directly on the skin. An alternative that allows for more mobility is to apply on a piece of cheese cloth and fold the cloth as if making a ‘burrito’ and secure to the skin with an ace bandage. After applying there are several options.

Uncovered: Some people put on clay and leave it uncovered so that it dries out, which will cause it to draw or pull. Wash the clay off before it is totally dry.

Covered with cloth: Covering the clay with a cloth will hold it in place and cause the clay to dry more slowly. Doing this will enable you to leave the clay on overnight or to walk around freely. Wetting the cloth with water will slow the drying rate and cause more of a cooling sensation.

Covered with Plastic: Covering the clay with plastic wrap or a plastic bag keeps the clay from drying out, which is what you want if you are applying it to a burn. Even though the clay doesn’t dry out, some people wash the clay off and replace it twice a day, other people have left the same pack on a burn for two or three days until it was ‘just pink skin.’
